Welcome

Thank you for visiting my website. This is an important step towards getting help for you or your child.

About
We all experience difficulties and loss in our lives, and it can feel overwhelming. Talking to someone outside your life, who offers you privacy and confidentiality can help. I can offer you or your child space and time to  work through how to deal with what is happening for you. I can help with bereavement, anxiety, depression, relationships, family difficulties, suicidal thoughts, self harm, fertiltiy, miscarraige, and the challenges of adolescence. It can be liberating to talk to someone in total confidence, who is not there to judge but is there to support you
How I work
My approach is person centred and humanist, this means I put you, and what you want, at the centre of all our sessions. I do not sit silently and wait for you to talk, we have an active conversation, and if you need to be quiet, then that is what we will do. I firmly believe that you will be able to work out resolve your difficulties with the right help and encouragement. I sometimes use creative techniques and games with young people, and with adults who feel they can communicate more freely that way. However, mostly we will talk and build a relationship of trust.
Experience
I have been in Private Practice since 2019 and before that I worked in the public sector, as a Bereavement Volunteer for Cruse (A national bereavement charity) and as a teacher and senior leader in schools and alternative provision in London and the Yorkshire for 26 years. I specialised in working with young people with emotional and behavioral difficulties and a range of Special Educational Needs.

My experience with bereaved clients, troubled children and young people has enabled me to develop a deep understanding of how tough it can be young, to suffer loss and simply to live your best life. Sometimes talking things through with a neutral person outside your life can help you work out what you need next. I aim to look at the world through your eyes so that I can understand how it feels to be you and help you to work out how to cope with what life throws at you.
Practical Details
Initially we will arrange to chat on the phone at a mutually convenient time (free of charge). From there we will work out when we can meet in person, either in Holgate in York or in Ampleforth in Ryedale. In our first meetings we will both decide if I am the right person to help you.
I can also offer online sessions if that is more practical for you.
I usually work in Ryedale on Tuesdays and York on Wednesdays and Thursdays.I charge £60 per session, payable by bank transfer or cash.
